A national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), and former Governor of Lagos State, Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Friday accused one of his successors Akinwunmi Ambode of misrule, necessitating the wresting of powers from the latter in 2019.
Tinubu leveled the allegation at the Commissioning of the Agege- Pen Cinema flyover, a legacy project that was initiated by the Ambode administration but was commissioned by the incumbent governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
The APC top gun had led a blitzkrieg, an apparent internal coup within the APC, to deny Ambode a second term ticket.
In his address at the Commissioning of the flyovet,Tinubu said that sometime in 2017, the ship of the state was redirected because it was going in a wrong direction.
According to him: ‘They say who is Sanwo-olu and I said you will soon find out..Ever since Sanwo-olu became the captain of the State , he has turned it to the right direction, both you and the cabinet have turned it around.”
Tinubu added: “Babajide Sanwo-olu and Obafemi Hamzat (the Deputy Governor) are building Lagos back to progress, no matter the economic turbulence. Lagos State has been into one construction or the other.”
The APC leader, who is sometimes regarded as “Governor-General of Lagos, an apparent acknowledgent of his hold on the state even after leaving office in 2007, and is believed to be eyeing the office of President in 2023, urged the youth to give peace a chance, noting: “If there is no peace, there can’t be development.”
He said that the Sanwo-Olu government is doing all it can to build good schools for the future generation
In his address, Sanwo-olu said the project was 20 percent construction when he assumed the office of Governor, but he made sure it was completed. He noted that the project will reduce the traffic time in the axis.
The Speaker of the state Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa said the project was proposed before he assumed office, and expressed joy that he made sure that it was executed.
Chairman Agege Local Government Honourable Kola Egunjobi named Old Ipaja road after Tinubu and Dopemu road after Sanwo-olu
