An Ikeja High Court, Lagos has rejected the bail bid of suspected kidnap kingpin, Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike.
The courtbhas also opened his trial.
Onwuamadike, more commonly known as Evans, had earlier today told the Court that the Police erred in his prosecution by filing too many charges against him simultaneously.
According to his lawyer Olukoya Ogungbeje, the prosecution cannot expect Evans to continue to stand trial in a case where there is no grounds for proceedings against him.
He said: “The law is clear that if you file multiplicity of charges against the same person in different courts, even if on different grounds, it is an abuse of court processes.”
The defence counsel added: “In the proof of evidence given by the prosecution, there is no where the name of the 1st defendant (Evans) was mentioned. Therefore there is no ground for proceedings and I wonder why the prosecution would want the 1st defendant to stand trial when there is no ground for proceeding”.
