Coco headlines Wimbledon, as Murray, Serena kiss

Just over a week ago when Coco Gauff, got a text from her coach with the name of Venus Williams inscribed in it, her natural reaction was to reply by asking whether she was to practice with one of her two idols- Serena being the second.

But when her coach wrote back that Williams was to be her first round opponent on the opening day of Wimbledon , little did anyone know that the 15-year old Floridan schoolgirl would be headlining the cover of national newspapers the morning after.

The rest is not just history, Gauff , who put up a sensational comeback performance on centre court on Friday evening by pulling out a win despite being just two points away from defeat – to Slovenian Polona Hercog- in their three-sets battle, will definitely headline Monday’s line up of round of 16 matches for both men and women when she faces a very formidable opponent in world number seven , Simona Halep.

Among other matches for Monday are those involving the defending champion, Novak Djokovic , two-time champion, Rafael Nadal and eight -time winner , Roger Federer.

Serena Williams , who partnered Andy Murray to a straight sets win in their much anticipated mixed doubles opening round match on Saturday, will also be in action .

Meanwhile, the celebrity partnership victory of the duo was sealed with a kiss in front of the packed crowd that included England manager, Gareth Southgate and Olympic distance running legend , Sir Mo Farah.
