Two robbery suspects were on Monday killed by residents of Biogbolo community, in Yenagoa Local government area of Bayelsa State.
Two others escaped, while one was severely injured.
The incident caused heavy vehicular traffic along the popular Mbiama Yenagoa road, until men of the state Police command intervened and rescued the badly injured suspect.
The five-man suspects were said to be criminals who frequently terrorised the area, robbing business people around the Otiotio/ Erepa business district, majorly populated by Hausa traders.
It was learnt that luck ran out on the gang when they tried to rob a passerby who was at the time having only N1000 in his pocket, raised alarm to alert traders and residents.
The two deceased and other gang members believed to be in their late 20s, were given a hot chase when passersby noticed they were criminals.
An eyewitness who didn’t want his name in print, said those boys were one of the several gangs that terrorised the area.
“We suffer a lot from them on a daily basis, they rob us and go free. The police are not doing anything about it, they move freely with fire arms in the state and are not caught, even if they are caught they’ll be released in no time.”
Another eyewitness said: “At least we will be free for some time now. This is the first and we will continue, jungle justice will persist so that they will reduce this every day crime. They rob people and cross to the other side of the community every day, we are on red alert now.”
According to the Bayelsa State police command, the bodies of two suspected armed robbers killed by a mob have been recovered.
The spokesperson, DSP Asimin Butswat, who confirmed the incident said locally made pistols were also recovered, adding that the names of the deceased were yet to be sent to his office.
