Plateau to commercialise waste management


The Plateau State government has completed plans to privatise and  commercialise waste management, according to the state Commissioner for Environment, Abdullahi Abbas.

Abbas made the disclosure on Tuesday during a stakeholders meeting. According to him, the residents will henceforth pay a token  before their wastes are evacuated from their communities.

He solicited the cooperation of the private sector in the efficient management of wastes.

Abbas emphasised the need for traditional rulers and private  companies to create a synergy towards managing waste between Jos-Bukuru metropolis.

He said exercise shall be extended to other local governments as soon as it is fully implemented in the state and solicited the cooperation of stakeholders in that regard

He said then state government decided to borrow a leaf from other developed and developing nations to give priority on how to  commercialize waste management for optimal productivity.

He added that the government would give priority to issues of public health  and to secure a healthy environment for the citizenry .
